Endorsement®

The intent of the Endorsement by the Oklahoma Association for Infant Mental Health (OK-AIMH) is to recognize and document the development of infant and family professionals within an organized system of culturally sensitive, relationship-based, infant mental health learning and work experiences. Endorsement® by the Oklahoma Association for Infant Mental Health (OK-AIMH) will verify that an applicant has attained a level of education as specified, participated in specialized in-service trainings, worked with guidance from mentors or supervisors, and acquired knowledge to promote the delivery of high quality, culturally sensitive, relationship-focused services to infants, toddlers, parents, other caregivers and families. Endorsement® provides information of significant value to employers and referral sources related to the social and emotional development of infants and young children and their families. The OK-AIMH Endorsement is exceptionally useful in guiding individual professional development plans.

The Importance of Reflective Supervision/Consultation

Reflective supervision/consultation goes beyond clinical supervision to shared exploration of the parallel process, i.e., attention to all of the relationships, including that between practitioner and parent, between parent and infant/toddler, and between practitioner and supervisor. It is critical to understand how each of these relationships affects the others.

By attending to the emotional content of the work and how reactions to the content affect the work, reflective supervision/consultation nurtures professional and personal development within one's discipline. There isgreater emphasis on the supervisor/consultant's ability to listen and wait, allowing the supervisee to discover solutions, concepts and perceptions on his/her own.

Below you will find a list of providers of reflective supervision/consultation in the state of Oklahoma who are eligible to supervise OK-AIMH Endorsement® applicants. The presence on this list means the individual has earned Endorsement® as an Infant Mental Health Specialist or Infant Mental Health Mentor.

NOTE: OK-AIMH cannot guarantee the accuracy, reliability or completeness of any supervision provided by these individuals.

OK-AIMH Endorsement® Registry

Endorsement® Registry for Culturally Sensitive, Relationship-Focused Practice Promoting Infant Mental Health

Endorsement® involves a standardized process to determine that a professional has accumulated specialized experiences in the infant and early childhood field and has signed a Code of Ethics. All applicants receive a copy of the Code of Ethics. An applicants' experiences are documented by the submission of an application that details competency-based training, specialized work experiences, and for most, reflective supervision/consultation (RSC) experiences. The application also includes transcripts and three reference ratings. Mental Health Mentor Endorsees have passed an exam that includes measures of theoretical knowledge, direct service skills, and their capacity to apply these principles into practice.

Maintaining Endorsement® also requires ongoing training and, in the cases of Infant/Early Childhood Family Specialist, Infant/Early Childhood Mental Health Specialist and Infant/Early Childhood Mental Health Mentor-Clinical, ongoing RSC. Endorsees are also required to re-commit to upholding the Code of Ethics annually.

Endorsement® is not a professional license or a certificate. OK-AIMH Endorsement® cannot guarantee the quality of service of any endorsed professional. OK-AIMH Endorsement® does not include a process by which complaints or concerns regarding ethics can be filed. If OK-AIMH becomes aware of possible ethics violations by an endorsed professional, complainants are encouraged to, when applicable, contact the individual's professional licensing board. The OK-AIMH Endorsement® does not offer monitoring for ethics violations, however if OK-AIMH learns that an endorsed professional has been sanctioned by a licensing board, the individual's name is moved to the Inactive Endorsement® Registry. Those professionals will follow the policy for reactivation to the Active Endorsement® Registry once the licensing board's sanctions have been lifted.
