Juli Skinner has worked with Native children and families for the past 21 years with the Cherokee Nation. She is a member of the Ponca Tribe and was raised in her Native culture and has extensive knowledge working within a Native population. Juli designed and developed strategic plans around interventions regarding activities that promote and protect young child wellness for Native American children and families. She served as the project director for two multiyear cooperative agreements with SAMHSA around young child wellness activities and systems of care strategies Project LAUNCH and Systems of Care). In 2012, Juli helped develop and launch a Children's Behavioral Health department for Cherokee Nation. The first of its kind for Cherokee Nation, the HERO Project stands for helping everyone reach out and strives to deliver services on the micro, mezzo and macro levels. The program works with children and parents on an individual level, delivering direct clinical evidenced based interventions that reach two generations. On the mezzo level, Juli developed community strategies using community organizing and mobilizing approaches to integrate parents and caregivers to bring forth changes to their community to promote young child wellness activities. On the macro level, the HERO project partners with Tribes, Universities, and State and Federal agencies to develop and enhance interventions to meet the needs of Native families. Juli currently direct all activities in Behavioral Health for the Cherokee Nation and has helped create a Cabinet for Children for all child and family serving programs. Juli received her Master's in Social Work from Oklahoma University in 2012. Her emphasis focused on Administrative and Community Practice Social Work. She is a Licensed Master Social Worker and is currently serving as the Senior Director of Cherokee Nation Behavioral Health.
